"God won’t tie your soul to a dead-end dream."

I’ve been seeing this come up on my dash a lot recently, and, while I do understand the sentiment behind it, its bothering me because I think it is misleading.

first of all, not every desire or dream is from God—just because you have a strong desire to become a successful musician or find the cure for cancer or get married or make a lot of money or some other way of “finding happiness,” doesn’t mean it will just happen, and it also doesn’t mean the desire is from God. being a Christ-follower doesn’t mean your problems go away or that your dreams and desires will come true. The Bible never promises happiness or an easy life—in fact, we are promised the opposite:

'Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.' (1 Peter 4:12-13)

our purpose is to make Christ known and serve him and love him through the trials—which are inevitable. our purpose is to align our wills with the will of God, which is very hard most of the time. our purpose is to love the living daylights out of the people on this earth and bring hope and light everywhere we go. the purpose of our lives cannot be simply to hope all our dreams come true and do everything we can in order to be happy—that is selfish and shallow and empty.

You should read the whole passage (verses 12-19) but Paul goes on to say (in verse 19), “Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.”

He is so good, you guys. He cares about the trials. When you are weary or sad or discouraged or tired or weak—when you just can’t find a job to support your family, or when your boyfriend breaks up with you, or when your second miscarriage happens, or when all your friends are getting married and you are still single and searching and hoping, or when your mama gets diagnosed with cancer—go to Him. He is good and he cares. He is the bringer of joy and hope and rest and all things good. He redeems and breathes life and comforts like no other.

"Confidence isn’t walking into a room with your nose in the air, and thinking you are better than everyone else, it’s walking into a room and not having to compare yourself to anyone else in the first place."

"Standing all alone
I suddenly realized that
I can still stand tall."
